Beans and legumes are at their best during Navratri. Fresh field beans are a treat. This simple and tasty sundal is soul food for the goddesses who are worshiped during these holy days.

Ingredients

mochakottai (field bean)- 200g
water- 100ml
salt- to taste
turmeric- 1 tsp

for the tadka (tempering)

sunflower oil- 1 tbsp
black mustard seeds- 1 tsp
red chili dried- 3-4 pieces
urad dal broken- 2 tsp
curry leaves- 15 nos
asafoetida - a pinch

Method

1. Place the field beans in a flat pan, pour water, turmeric powder and a llittle salt and pressure cook till soft. (2 whistles will work)

for the tadka (tempering)

2. Arrange all the ingredients in the given order.
3. Place oil in a kadai over medium high heat, crackle black mustard, once they start to pop continue with the red chilies, urad dal and stir till golden, add the curry leaves and asafoteida and remove.
4. Mix the field bean and the tadka and serve in small paper pockets.
