Fox tail millet is rich in protein. It is very fragrant when cooked. These easy to make crisps are a delight during Diwali the festival of lights. Wishing all our readers a Happy and Prosperous Diwali!


fox tail millet (thinai) flour- 2 cups
urad dal flour- 1 cup
sesame seeds- 1 tsp
channa dal- 1 tsp
asafetida- a pinch
salt- to taste
butter- 2 tbsp
water- as required
sunflower oil- 800ml (for frying)


1. Blend the fox tail millet and urad dal into a fine flour and place them ina bowl.
2. Add the sesame seeds, channadal, salt, asafetida and mix well.
3. Add the butter and mix well till the mixture turns to a sandy texture.
4.Sprinkle adequate amount of water and make a thick dough.
5. Divide the mixture into small balls and flatten them amidst your palm. Make a few and keep them aside.
6. Heat oil in a kadai to about 170-180C and fry the thattai till crisp and golden.

(Cool and store in air tight container up to two weeks)
